WEI earns Nutanix Premier Reseller Status, empowering enterprises with hybrid multicloud and AI-ready infrastructure.

Specializing in Nutanix as a WEI pre-sales architect, I’ve seen how transformative the Nutanix Cloud Platform has become for enterprise IT teams striving to modernize their infrastructure. Now that WEI has achieved Nutanix Premier Reseller status within the Nutanix Elevate Partner Program, that transformation becomes even more attainable for our valuable customers.

Why Does Premier Status Matter?

Earning Premier Reseller status further cements that WEI can deliver fully validated, cluster-ready Nutanix environments that integrate into existing enterprise networks.

For our customers, that means fewer unknowns and faster deployment. Every Nutanix cluster we deliver is tested, imaged, and validated as part of our unique and proven Integration & Testing Lab before it leaves our facility. Avoiding the costly drop-shipping model, we deliver systems that are ready to plug into your environment on day one.

This hands-on integration approach has always been part of the WEI difference, and it’s one of the biggest reasons organizations come to us for their modern hybrid cloud initiatives.

Nutanix Cloud Clusters: The Foundation for a True Hybrid Multicloud

From my architectural perspective, Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) are one of the most powerful enablers of hybrid multicloud architecture today. NC2 gives organizations the flexibility to extend their private cloud into public cloud providers while maintaining the same management interface, security policies, and software stack they already trust on-prem.

What makes NC2 so compelling is the speed it brings to enterprise transformation. Nutanix reports that customers can reduce deployment timelines from 18–24 months to as little as 3–6 months. This is a dramatic improvement for teams that face long lead times and integration challenges when moving workloads between environments.

By standardizing operations across data centers and public clouds through a unified software layer, NC2 allows enterprises to deploy workloads faster, reuse existing licenses, and avoid costly re-architecture efforts. It also aligns with Gartner’s guidance on distributed hybrid infrastructure, providing a consistent platform for workload mobility and governance across clouds.

Basically, this means IT leaders are better positioned to achieve the long-awaited “agility” of public cloud while maintaining the control and predictability of private infrastructure. This is a balance that sits at the heart of modern hybrid cloud design.

Helping Customers Build the Modern Hybrid Cloud

In most conversations I have with IT leaders, I hear the same goals: improve control, reduce operational friction, and build a foundation that’s cloud-ready, all without adding unnecessary intricacy.

With WEI’s guidance, organizations can use NC2 to:

 • Deploy clusters faster
 • Migrate workloads more smoothly
 • Maintain consistent management across hybrid environments

I’ve worked with clients who went from traditional three-tier infrastructure to Nutanix-powered hyperconverged platforms that delivered measurable results. This means faster provisioning, easier scaling, and reduced lifecycle costs. When combined with WEI’s pre-configuration and lifecycle support, the result is a predictable, high-performing hybrid cloud that’s ready for anything from VDI to AI workloads.

Crafting a disaster recovery plan for any business environment can be tricky. Let Nutanix and WEI’s cloud-based DR solutions support your goals to maintain your competitive edge.

Disasters come in all shapes and sizes. From natural catastrophes like floods and fires to cyberattacks and hardware failures, unexpected events can cripple a business’s operations. These seismic events cause downtime – which equates to lost revenue, damaged reputations, and a potential competitive disadvantage.

This is where disaster recovery (DR) comes in. Regardless of your business environment – physical, virtual, or cloud-based – we’ll outline how you can craft a well-defined DR plan to ensure you can bounce back quickly from disruptions, and minimize downtime and its associated costs.

Downtime Is Expensive

Unplanned downtime causes significant financial impact in multiple areas of a business. This leads to:

 • Lost productivity
 • Increased customer dissatisfaction because they can’t access essential services, which could lead to customers switching to a competitor.
 • Potential legal repercussions, depending on the nature of your business and the impact of the outage.

Beyond the , as revealed by a Gartner study, downtime inflicts long-term damage on your reputation. This is why a proactive and robust DR strategy is essential to significantly reduce the risks associated with outages.

Tailoring DR Strategies For Optimal Recovery

An effective DR plan goes beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. It hinges on two key elements: prioritizing critical business functions and carefully assessing them. When conducting this assessment, consider classifying your workloads into three tiers.

 • Tier 1: Mission-Critical Applications – These are the heart of your business, responsible for core functions like sales processing or financial transactions. Recovery for Tier 1 applications needs to be swift and seamless, often within minutes of an outage.
 • Tier 2: Important Applications – These applications support daily operations but aren’t mission-critical. Think of email servers or internal communication tools. Recovery for Tier 2 applications can be less immediate but should still be prioritized.
 • Tier 3: Non-Critical Applications – These are applications used infrequently or for non-essential tasks. Backups are sufficient for Tier 3 applications, with recovery times being less time-sensitive.

Categorizing applications allows you to tailor an effective DR strategy. This ensures you focus resources and recovery plans on the most critical applications, enabling a faster and more efficient overall recovery.

Cloud DR: A Cost-Effective And Flexible Solution

Powering public cloud providers such as AWS and Azure, Nutanix offers reliable DR solutions for business continuity. It’s not just limited to cloud-based applications, though, as this solution is also applicable to both physical and virtual business environments.

Cloud DR solutions offer seamless integration with virtual environments. This means your virtual machines (VMs) can be easily replicated and activated in the cloud during a disaster. This ensures a swift recovery of your applications and data.

For physical environments, cloud DR utilizes software agents installed on physical servers. These agents continuously replicate server data to the cloud, guaranteeing a recent copy is always available for restoration in case of an outage at your physical location.

Some cloud providers even offer bare metal recovery options. This allows you to recover your physical servers onto virtual machines (VMs) hosted in the cloud. This approach is flexible and gets your physical systems back online faster.

Regardless of the business environment, cloud-based disaster recovery (DR) offers several advantages that transform your strategy:

 • Effortless Scaling: Cloud resources can be adjusted on-demand to meet specific recovery needs. This eliminates the need for excess on-premises infrastructure, saving you money during normal operations.
 • Cost-Optimization: The cloud’s pay-as-you-go model eliminates upfront capital expenditure on hardware and DR infrastructure. You only pay for the resources you use, leading to significant cost savings.
 • Geo-dispersed Protection: Cloud providers offer data centers scattered across various geographical locations. This allows for swift failover to a secondary site in case of a disaster, minimizing downtime.
 • Remote Management Flexibility: DR sites hosted in the cloud can be set up and managed remotely. This eliminates the need for dedicated IT staff at the secondary location, streamlining your DR operations.

Overall, cloud DR offers a versatile solution for protecting both physical, virtual, and cloud-based business environments. It simplifies DR management, reduces costs, and ensures faster recovery times during disruptions.

As an industry, it can be argued that healthcare experienced the greatest number of technological challenges at the height of the pandemic. Identifying and implementing the technology that was required for the early months of Covid tested even the most experienced of IT leaders. Radical changes occurred for administrative personnel, clinical personnel, and of course, patients and their families.

While many workplaces opted for a remote-only model, healthcare network teams everywhere had to support the needs of on-site operations and remote operations. This was on top of keeping hospitals, emergency rooms, urgent care centers, and critical outpatient clinics running as smoothly as possible. Never before had the needs of on-site clinicians, whose jobs were done under heavy duress, been so critical. The same goes for remote knowledge workers and honorable clinicians conducting their first telehealth appointments.

Prior to 2020, telehealth was not an unknown concept to hospitals and the smaller clinics within their networks. However, it wasn’t exactly a focal point of care for most providers, either. The urgent need to discover innovative ways for clinicians to see patients and to allow staff to work safely from home accelerated the adoption of telehealth services and a focus on end-user computing transformation. Fast forward to summer 2022, and it’s clear this practice is unlikely to disappear once the pandemic is behind us. We now see how technology can help deliver healthcare services and lower critical operational costs.

The Importance Of End-User Computing Transformation

The healthcare industry will continue to face challenges over the next few decades. A 2019 study by the found that by 2050, will be over the age of 65 and living with a chronic disease. This will inevitably result in an increase in healthcare spending and further the need for providers to reduce costs where they can to ensure funds are spent on patient care, not business processes.

The adoption of cloud-based end-user computing can improve productivity, help clinicians provide meaningful care, and enable technology teams to redesign services and approaches to healthcare. Ultimately, this allows for more virtual care and productive remote work. Despite this, there is immense pressure on healthcare providers to ensure the largest piece of the budget goes to clinical use cases as opposed to technology.

The challenge, then, is to convince healthcare organizations that improving the end-user computing experience can deliver significant benefits.

As one health service CIO states, “We must also get past the notion that technology is unaffordable, and that the longer-term investment in technology, to enable care, should come ahead of shorter-term investment to address immediate pressures on healthcare services like staffing.”

The Demand For Telehealth Services

Perhaps the biggest technology-led change we’ve seen in the healthcare industry is the increase in telehealth options for both inpatients and outpatients. Telehealth services enable patients and their trusted providers to be more connected and engage in real-time communication. Of course, if encouraged, patients can meet with their providers live and in-person, but if a routine appointment can be done remotely, then why not take advantage of this newfound convenience? Overworked and understaffed hospital personnel welcome the decrease in patient/visitor traffic, while safeguarding against the spread of infection is also being applied.

Additionally, telehealth services provide remote access to health assessments, consultations, diagnoses, interventions, and more. Not only do patients have the ability to schedule an interactive telehealth appointment, but technology also allows them to receive appointment reminders, read critical notifications, view test results in a responsive patient portal and even utilize wearable devices that provide metrics on various health concerns.

The increase in telehealth services, however, does create challenges for healthcare IT teams. Deploying and supporting these solutions with the necessary scalability, availability, and security needed introduces significant difficulties for these already overworked teams.

Nutanix And Cybersecurity In The Healthcare Industry

The use of telehealth services, while beneficial to both the patient and the provider, opens up the potential for an increase in cyberattacks. In fact, of healthcare organizations experienced a ransomware attack in 2021, nearly double the number of attacks in 2020. There is clearly a significant need for health organizations to ensure their data is protected and that malware and ransomware are prevented.

End-user computing improves security by eliminating the need to store data on a physical desktop that can be lost or stolen. Instead, private information is stored in a datacenter where it is managed, monitored, and protected.

Nutanix can help your telehealth services run more smoothly and efficiently with a focus on cybersecurity and protecting your organization from cybercriminals. It gives healthcare organizations the freedom to build modern hybrid and multi-cloud solutions with choice, simplicity, and flexibility, and delivers cloud-ready infrastructure combining compute, storage, virtualization, and networking, regardless of location.

Among others, the benefits of utilizing for your end-user computing are:

 • Built-in auditing and remediation: The software remains in compliance and doesn’t deviate from the original secure configuration.
 • Streamlined patches and updates: Simplified upgrades for all software and firmware.
 • Data-at-Rest Encryption: All data is encrypted using flexible methods.
 • Least-privilege access: Users receive the least amount of privilege necessary for their roles.
 • Role-based access control: Different security policies can be assigned to different groups and administrative levels.

Technology in the healthcare industry will continue to evolve, and with it comes the need to ensure your organization stays focused on end-user computing and cybersecurity. To learn more about how Nutanix can help your enterprise, contact WEI today.

Next Steps: Recent years have shown how critical the need for greater elasticity really is. This has accelerated the transition to hybrid cloud architectures that utilize the appropriate mix of both private and public clouds. Today’s advanced HCI solutions are designed for this new era. Using a roadmap will help your enterprise avoid cloud adoption mistakes and develop a strong cloud strategy that fits seamlessly into your organization.

According to , 92% of organizations adopted a multi-cloud approach in 2021. Cloud strategies allow your enterprise to increase flexibility, consistently update, foster greater agility, and enable rapid innovation. However, there are a number of common cloud adoption mistakes enterprises struggle with due to the lack of proper cloud strategy, planning, and governance mechanisms.

In this article, we identify the top seven cloud adoption mistakes and provide a roadmap to help your enterprise avoid them.

Top Seven Cloud Adoption Mistakes

As many organizations adopt the cloud, there are small mistakes being made that prevent them from developing a strong cloud strategy. Here are the top seven mistakes enterprises often make while adopting the cloud:

 1. Maintaining an old infrastructure mindset.
 2. Absence of upfront governance policies.
 3. A lack of control provisioning resources.
 4. Underutilizing the “pay-as-you-go” model.
 5. Forsaking continuous cleanup.
 6. Not pursuing a DevOps culture.
 7. A lack of automated remediation capabilities.

Your Roadmap To Avoid Cloud Adoption Mistakes

Cloud adoption can be challenging; however, having a successful cloud strategy can make your transition as seamless and manageable as possible. The following roadmap can prevent your enterprise from making costly cloud adoption mistakes.

 1. Change your mindset: Understand that your existing infrastructure may be incompatible with the cloud system. Assess what you have, your existing data center, and your business objectives and link them to your cloud adoption strategy.
 2. Create customized governance policies: To prevent uncontrolled cloud spending and enable more accurate resource planning for each business unit, your enterprise must define each core governance structure and clearly articulate its processes.
 3. Gain control over the provisioning process: Your enterprise must perform application and infrastructure vulnerability assessments regularly. Additionally, it’s imperative to have an established security checklist to ensure vulnerabilities don’t increase.
 4. Utilize the “pay-as-you-go” model: Investing in a cloud management platform will help your enterprise save costs by tracking underutilized resources and identifying recurring expenditures.
 5. Eliminate wasteful resources: Organizations must develop a “consume or eliminate” process. Using as-a-Service platforms makes managing the cloud more efficient by allowing you to monitor all resources to determine if they’re underutilized.

For your modern IT organization to be successful, you need to be more visible, expedite service delivery, and place more emphasis on enabling the business to extract value from data.

In this article we discuss the modern-day challenges IT organizations face and how HPE GreenLake with Nutanix can provide three key solutions.

Modern Enterprise Challenges

There is a disconnect between business objectives and business demands when it comes to IT organizations. According to ESG research, “nearly nine in ten organizations expect to run 50% or more of their workloads on-premises.” IT departments, however, are held to a different standard: the hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Does your IT department find itself spending too much time managing individual infrastructure components due to two systems you have to manage (on-premises and hybrid cloud)? With the lack of IT resources, this fuels the growing adoption of cloud services, and the high number of additional workloads stretches your IT departments too thin. On top of that there has been a limited amount of talent or budget to support your IT department which affects the scalability of an organization to meet the myriad of demands.

How HPE And Nutanix Meet Business Expectations

Modern organizations need to implement a cloud-like, consumption-based model for their IT departments. This is where HPE GreenLake and Nutanix Enterprise Cloud come into play for your business.

is a fully managed, scalable IT infrastructure service offering a cloud-like consumption model for on-premises infrastructures. Your organization can choose the most appropriate services based on your needs and have the option to pay as you go. HPE GreenLake is easily scaled with the added advantage of an onsite buffer when extra capacity is needed.

Nutanix delivers a complete IT infrastructure with the agility, scalability, and simplicity of the cloud, and the security, performance, and cost predictability of traditional on-premises infrastructures. It satisfies application workloads from end-user computing environments with VDI to mission-critical database applications that serve as the backbone of the business.

HPE GreenLake With Nutanix: 3 Key Solutions

Thankfully, your organization doesn’t have to choose between the two services as HPE and Nutanix have collaborated to better support customers. concentrates on three key solutions to address modern IT organization challenges:

1. End-User Computing Infrastructure: As an end-user, computing infrastructure releases your IT personnel from routine, labor-intensive tasks to instead work on value-added initiatives by providing you faster and easier deployment and management to your VDI and DaaS infrastructures. This enables your IT department to supply users with the applications they need with strengthened security.

2. Database Infrastructure: The consolidates disparate workloads into one efficient management platform by streamlining your database deployment, management, and operations. Your organization can rapidly provision, clone, patch, refresh, and perform backups, while the pay-as-you-go model drastically reduces expenses by eliminating upfront capital expenditures.

3. Private Cloud Infrastructure: Private cloud infrastructure provides IT organizations the ability to reliably deliver applications and data at any scale and provision, update, and perform disaster recovery with one click. It allows your organization to support business-critical workloads by bringing together the agility of on-premise with the security and flexibility of a private cloud.

For your modern IT organizations to thrive, you must embrace an as-a-service delivery model. HPE GreenLake with Nutanix supports your IT department in their journey to better align resources to your specific lines of business and has a wide variety of applications and infrastructure demands.

Let’s talk about clusters and clouds. We often associate the word “cluster” with terms such as redundancy, resiliency or workload distribution. IT admins have traditionally turned to clustering bare metal systems such as firewall appliances, web servers, and virtual hosting platforms for years. When we consider the “cloud” we think about characteristics such as limitless scalability, elasticity, and simplicity. Of course, the infrastructure that supports these cloud environments is derived from clustered infrastructures, hidden underneath SaaS and IaaS platforms and are thus inaccessible to customers.

Extend Nutanix Clusters Into The Cloud

But what if you extend your clusters into the cloud? You could have then the best of both worlds. That is what has delivered on, cloud-based clusters that reduce both the cost and complexity of today’s most complicated hybrid networks. Think of their solution as a cluster on steroids. For instance:

 • In the same way that you are accustomed to firing up additional virtual machines within your on-premises HCI solution, you can now scale out, not only from a capacity perspective, but a geographical one as well. That’s because you can burst added capacity across multiple clouds in order to meet unforeseen demands from multiple regions of the world.
 • What you giveth, you can also take back away. Idle machines cost money in an OPEX cloud model so let you spin down virtual machines and shrink capacities when demand fades in order to save money. Nutanix Clustering does one better than that, however. Not only can you hibernate VMs and their supporting resources, you can even hibernate the bare metal instances that support the cluster itself, saving you bare metal compute costs as well. Then simply resume these instances when they are needed again down the road. In other words, you aren’t just right-sizing your VM capacity, you’re also right-sizing your cluster infrastructure in real time as well. This is especially beneficial for , say for DevOps or seasonal-based businesses.

Watch how to hibernate VMs in this 2-minute demo from Nutanix

 • Nutanix cloud-based clusters take redundancy to the next level as well as you can leverage public clouds for high availability and even if your primary workloads reside on-premises. Your disaster ready infrastructure can reside in faraway geographic reasons to ensure ultimate redundancy.

Cloud Like, But Not Cloud Only

The Nutanix HCI stack is available on AWS and Azure bare metal instances, fully extending the power of existing on-premises Nutanix HCI clusters into the cloud. But that doesn’t mean it is a cloud only solution. It also doesn’t mean that you are reliant on any third parties as is the usual case with cloud-based services. Nor are you locked into any particular cloud infrastructure. Using the Prism Central management interface, internal IT remains in complete control of their own environment, calling the shots as they see fit. Admins can now manage any Nutanix node, VM or application within their ecosphere from a single pane of glass. This not only simplifies administration but also allows you to maximize your resources to your mission critical workloads rather than management tasks. All of this allows for seamless integration on a number of levels. Here are three to consider:

 1. It redefines the concept of “lift and shift” for applications. While lift and shift migrations might not involve a forklift, it often requires rearchitecting your applications in order to transition them to the cloud. By decoupling applications from their underlying platform, Nutanix gives you the ability to migrate on-premises applications to the cloud with minimal changes, thus saving you time and money.
 2. Those applications that must be hosted by your on-premises Nutanix cluster can be modernized in cloud like fashion by allotting them direct access to native cloud services such as AI-based analytics and other advanced digital initiatives.
 3. Not only are your applications completely portable now, so are your licenses. Current Nutanix customers can utilize existing Nutanix Capacity Based Licenses (CBL) and apply them to the cloud. Simply reduce or retire your existing on-premises clusters and apply them to the cloud. New customers hosting environments that have consistent workloads may want a commitment-based subscription plan while others may be better off with a pay-as-you-go structure.

A True Hybrid Cloud

There was a time when a network was comprised of a single data center. There was a time when an enterprise utilized a single cloud. Those days are long gone as businesses have evolved with the times, and so has Nutanix. HCI is no longer about on-premises hardware environments. Nutanix clusters are about incorporating all aspects of your hybrid cloud whether it be public or private clouds. Nutanix clusters operate in a borderless vacuum so that you can operate your applications and services in a hybrid estate that is void of confining perimeters. In the same way that the first Nutanix cluster solutions began busting up silos within the traditional data center, they’re now doing the same for multi-cloud environments as well. Nutanix clusters offer you the freedom of the cloud in terms of performance and portability. Exciting, right? Maximize your today by clustering everything into one extended platform.

]]>

Ever since the mainstream adoption of cloud computing in the enterprise, organizations have been seeking the benefits of public cloud, while still wanting to retain the control of data center operations.

For this reason, among others, many enterprises have worked their way towards a hybrid cloud model, which offers the best of both worlds.

However, for truly successful hybrid cloud operations, enterprises must acknowledge and seek solutions for the pain points that are unique to this technology. A discusses this topic in detail, and we’ve pulled the top 5 strategies for hybrid cloud success to share here.

1. Create a unified infrastructure control plane

As shared in the report, separate cloud environments can have wildly differing management interfaces and expertise in one cloud environment doesn’t necessarily translate to another. Cloud management is typically siloed as well, with each cloud platform having its own management team. All this combined, plus the limited interoperability between clouds, results in a lack of integration throughout the network.

To solve these issues, O’Reilly recommends unifying infrastructure management through a single control plane that can be applied everywhere. Once the control plane is selected, the next step is to modernize data center infrastructure to use that control plane as much as possible and specifically choose public clouds that you allow to use it. More information on this strategy can be found in .

2. Streamline the application lifecycle

Once infrastructure management has been dealt with, the next place to focus attention is the application lifecycle.

As shared in O’Reilly’s report, the utilization of hybrid cloud environments has rapidly increased user expectations for speed and accessibility. Application deployment is also more complex in a cloud environment, with different cloud platforms requiring different tools, processes, and additional effort from IT.

Other complications come from the need for scaling during periods of peak load, and the differing needs between cloud native and traditional enterprise applications.

Overall, the application lifecycle is a major area of improvement for hybrid cloud environments. O’Reilly suggests the use of automation to shorten delivery time and avoid the risk of human errors. It can also help evolve the organizational structures of cloud platforms to be more fluid and less reliant on specialists for the day-to-day management tasks.

3. Simplify application migration

Traditionally, application migration between clouds requires modifying the application to be compatible with the environment to which it’s being migrated. However, if the first strategy recommended by O’Reilly has been put in place, it’s much easier and eliminates the need for complex migrations.

Utilizing the second strategy to streamline application management also positively contributes to application migration, and between the two, the need for re-platforming or refactoring can be reduced or even eliminated.

4. Utilize consistent security policies

Despite all the benefits of cloud computing, it also comes with its own specific security challenges. As shared by O’Reilly, “As with infrastructure management in general, the default for hybrid cloud security is a siloed approach that increases complexity and risk.”

Some of the complexity comes from the need for separate security models and tools for each cloud, while even more comes from not having a global view of security due to the siloed approach.

That said, there are a number of security solutions that are available for hybrid and multicloud environments. To pick the right solution, O’Reilly emphasizes the importance of evaluating your organization’s requirements and the skills of your security team.

5. Track cloud spending

It isn’t news that hybrid cloud environments complicate IT spending and keeping track of it, but it certainly does not have to be complex. While many organizations make use of spreadsheets or other traditional methods to track of costs, O’Reilly suggests making use of a specific cost management tool to get spending optimized and under control. These solutions often come with tools that offer costing analysis and the ability to identify areas where you can reduce spending.

Similar to the fourth strategy, it’s important to evaluate your requirements and the skills of your team before choosing a solution.
