Read: Choosing an MSP That Understands Your Business

As we step into a new year, many IT leaders are taking stock. They’re setting new priorities, realigning resources, and asking what’s truly moving the business forward. One pattern I continue to see is internal teams . They are juggling maintenance tasks, patching systems, and putting out fires instead of driving sorely needed innovation.

That’s where the right managed service provider can change the game.

Beyond Tickets and SLAs

Too often, MSPs are measured by how many tickets they close or how fast they respond. That might sound like service, but it misses the bigger picture.

The clients I work with need more than a help desk. They need a partner who takes ownership of the daily grind, so their internal teams can focus on business initiatives. That means someone else is handling routine maintenance, backups, patching, monitoring, and issue resolution day and night. It also means having support that aligns with the company’s specific business goals, not just its infrastructure.

Our clients are not looking for a standard solution. They want support that fits the way they operate and grow.

The WEI Approach to Managed Services

I work directly with clients to assess their business goals, risk posture, and IT challenges. From there, I help identify the MSP partner best suited to support their operations and culture.

These MSPs are not generic. They are carefully selected based on capabilities, expertise, and alignment with customer needs. Each of them delivers 24/7 support and is equipped to serve as a true extension of the client’s IT team.

These partners take on the day-to-day operational burden that typically falls to internal staff. Their teams perform the device-level work that keeps the business running: proactive monitoring, configuration updates, firmware patches, compliance checks, and incident response. These are not extras. They are foundational services performed consistently and transparently, so clients can focus on what matters most.

A Fresh Start for IT Operations

The start of a new year is the perfect time to reset expectations for IT support. Many of the leaders I work with use Q1 to clear out operational debt, which means offloading repetitive tasks, refining vendor relationships, and recommitting internal focus to long-term initiatives.

This is exactly where the right MSP partnership fits. By assigning daily operational work to a trusted partner, teams gain time, space, and energy to pursue the priorities that matter in the year ahead.

Strength in Partnership

Every one of our MSPs delivers more than reactive support. They apply zero-trust principles, help support compliance, and maintain readiness across hybrid environments. This is particularly valuable for companies embracing cloud-native strategies and modern AI-driven platforms.

Each partner has specific strengths. Some offer deep security expertise, while others bring advanced cloud and automation tools. But all are held to the same standard: to reduce risk, improve performance, and enable internal teams to work more strategically.

When you work with WEI, you are not just outsourcing work. You are gaining access to senior engineers, architects, and specialists who would be difficult or costly to build internally.

And because we manage the MSP relationship, you do not have to. We provide a dedicated onboarding lead and ongoing project updates to ensure you stay in control. Our goal is not just to keep systems up. It is to help you drive measurable outcomes from your technology investments.

Real Support, Real Results

When clients describe their experience with WEI’s managed services, I often hear a variation of the same comment: “It feels like we finally have our own NOC.”

That’s the point. The right MSP makes your IT operation feel stronger, faster, and more resilient without the expense of building out additional headcount or infrastructure. It becomes an extension of your team, working behind the scenes to protect your uptime, manage performance, and maintain user satisfaction around the clock.

If your current MSP relationship still feels like more work than support, now is the time to reassess. The beginning of the year is when strategic shifts get made. Your IT team deserves a partner that can help deliver on this year’s goals, not just last year’s tickets.

Let’s start a conversation about what’s possible in 2026. Message me or contact the WEI team directly.

Why Your Cloud Security Foundation Matters More Than You Think

Imagine this: Your company has just completed a significant cloud migration. Everything’s running smoothly, until a preventable security breach brings it all crashing down.

We’ve all heard the horror stories, right? But here’s the thing: most cloud security disasters aren’t caused by sophisticated hackers using zero-day exploits. They’re caused by basic misconfigurations that could have been avoided with a solid security foundation.

The “It Won’t Happen to Us” Mentality

Let’s be clear: if you’re thinking “our company is too small to be targeted” or “we don’t have anything valuable,” you’re setting yourself up for trouble. Recent studies show that 80% of companies experienced at least one cloud security incident in the last year.  the organizations that are hit hardest are often those that thought they were flying under the radar.

Cloud security isn’t just about preventing external attacks, it’s about creating a framework that protects you from:

  • Human error (yes, even your best developers make mistakes)
  • Insider threats (unfortunately, these are more common than enterprises would like)
  • Compliance violations (which can cost more than breaches themselves)
  • Operational disruptions (because downtime = lost revenue)

What We Mean by “Security Foundation”

When we talk about a security foundation, we’re not talking about buying the most expensive cybersecurity tools and calling it a day. Think of it like building a house…you wouldn’t start with the roof, right?

Your cloud security foundation is essentially your security blueprint. It’s the set of baseline controls, policies, and practices that everything else builds upon. Whether you’re using AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or all three (hey, we don’t judge – multi-cloud is real), you need this foundation in place before you start deploying workloads.

The Universal Truth: Shared Responsibility Model

Here’s where a lot of companies get tripped up, regardless of which cloud provider they choose. When you move to the cloud, you’re entering what’s called a “shared responsibility model.”

Your cloud provider handles: The physical security, infrastructure, and platform security.

You handle: Everything else. That is, your data, applications, operating systems, network configurations, and access management.

This applies whether you’re on AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.  puts it clearly in their documentation: they secure the physical datacenter, network controls, host infrastructure, and foundational services, while you’re responsible for data security, identity and access management, application security, and configuration management.

It’s like renting an apartment in a secure building. The building management handles the lobby security and fire safety systems, but you’re still responsible for locking your own door and not leaving your valuables on the windowsill.

Read: Building A Cloud Center of Excellence to Drive Cloud Governance

Why Most Companies Get This Wrong (Across All Platforms)

In our consulting work, we see the same patterns over and over again, regardless of whether clients are using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud:

  1. The “Move Fast and Fix Later” Trap

Companies rush to migrate to the cloud to hit deadlines or cut costs, planning to “circle back” to security later. Spoiler alert: later never comes, or when it does, it’s exponentially more expensive to retrofit security into existing systems.

  1. The “Default Settings Are Fine” Assumption

Cloud platforms are designed for flexibility and ease of use, not maximum security out of the box. Those default settings? They’re optimized for getting you up and running quickly, not for protecting your most sensitive data. This is true whether you’re spinning up EC2 instances in AWS, virtual machines in Azure, or compute engines in Google Cloud.

  1. The “Our On-Premises Security Will Work” Fallacy

Cloud environments are fundamentally different from traditional data centers. The tools and approaches that worked in your on-premises environment might not only be ineffective in the cloud – they might actually create new vulnerabilities.

  1. The “One Cloud Strategy Fits All” Mistake

Here’s one we see, especially with Azure deployments: teams assume that because they’re already using Microsoft 365 and understand Active Directory, Azure security will be straightforward. While Azure integrates beautifully with existing Microsoft ecosystems, it requires its own set of security considerations and expertise.

Read: 7 Effective Practices For Multi-Cloud Cost Optimization

The Common Security Challenges (No Matter Your Cloud)

Let’s talk about what keeps us up at night when we’re helping companies secure their cloud environments:

Misconfigurations Are Still King: Whether it’s misconfigured S3 buckets in AWS, improperly secured storage accounts in Azure, or overly permissive IAM roles in Google Cloud, configuration errors remain the leading cause of cloud security incidents. The complexity of cloud platforms means thousands of settings could potentially expose your data.

Identity Management Complexity: Every cloud provider has their own identity and access management system – AWS IAM, Azure Active Directory (now Microsoft Entra ID), and Google Cloud IAM. The challenge isn’t just learning these systems; it’s implementing them correctly with the principle of least privilege while maintaining operational efficiency.

The “Shared Everything” Problem: Cloud environments make it easy to share resources and data, but this convenience can quickly become a security nightmare if not properly managed. We’ve seen cases where development databases with production-like data were accidentally exposed because someone forgot to apply the right access controls.

The Business Case for Getting This Right: Let’s talk numbers for a minute:

  • The average cost of a data breach in 2024 was $4.45 million
  • 45% of breaches were cloud-based
  • Organizations with a comprehensive security foundation experienced 80% fewer security incidents.

But here’s the kicker: implementing a proper security foundation from the start costs a fraction of what you’ll spend dealing with security incidents later.

Plus, there’s the compliance angle. Whether you’re dealing with GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, or industry-specific regulations, all three major cloud providers offer compliance tools, but only if you configure them correctly from the beginning.

What’s Coming Next in This Series

Over the next few posts, we’re going to dive deep into the practical side of building these foundations across all three major platforms:

  • AWS-specific strategies that go beyond the basic compliance checklists
  • Azure security blueprints that leverage Microsoft’s latest security framework and tools
  • Google Cloud security foundations that work in the real world
  • Multi-cloud considerations for organizations using multiple providers
  • Implementation tips we’ve learned from helping dozens of companies secure their cloud environments

But before we get into the technical details, ask yourself: Does your organization have a clear answer to these questions?

  1. Who owns cloud security in your organization?
  2. Do you have visibility into all your cloud resources and their configurations across all platforms?
  3. Can you prove compliance with your industry regulations?
  4. Do you have an incident response plan that accounts for cloud-specific scenarios?
  5. Are you leveraging native security tools like AWS Security Hub, Azure Security Center (now Microsoft Defender for Cloud), or Google Cloud Security Command Center?

If you’re hesitating on any of these, you’re not alone, and you’re exactly who this series is designed to help. Please reach out to my incredible team at WEI to learn more or  on LinkedIn for any questions.

For your modern IT organization to be successful, you need to be more visible, expedite service delivery, and place more emphasis on enabling the business to extract value from data.

In this article we discuss the modern-day challenges IT organizations face and how HPE GreenLake with Nutanix can provide three key solutions.

Modern Enterprise Challenges

There is a disconnect between business objectives and business demands when it comes to IT organizations. According to ESG research, “nearly nine in ten organizations expect to run 50% or more of their workloads on-premises.” IT departments, however, are held to a different standard: the hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Does your IT department find itself spending too much time managing individual infrastructure components due to two systems you have to manage (on-premises and hybrid cloud)? With the lack of IT resources, this fuels the growing adoption of cloud services, and the high number of additional workloads stretches your IT departments too thin. On top of that there has been a limited amount of talent or budget to support your IT department which affects the scalability of an organization to meet the myriad of demands.

How HPE And Nutanix Meet Business Expectations

Modern organizations need to implement a cloud-like, consumption-based model for their IT departments. This is where HPE GreenLake and Nutanix Enterprise Cloud come into play for your business.

is a fully managed, scalable IT infrastructure service offering a cloud-like consumption model for on-premises infrastructures. Your organization can choose the most appropriate services based on your needs and have the option to pay as you go. HPE GreenLake is easily scaled with the added advantage of an onsite buffer when extra capacity is needed.

Nutanix delivers a complete IT infrastructure with the agility, scalability, and simplicity of the cloud, and the security, performance, and cost predictability of traditional on-premises infrastructures. It satisfies application workloads from end-user computing environments with VDI to mission-critical database applications that serve as the backbone of the business.

HPE GreenLake With Nutanix: 3 Key Solutions

Thankfully, your organization doesn’t have to choose between the two services as HPE and Nutanix have collaborated to better support customers. concentrates on three key solutions to address modern IT organization challenges:

1. End-User Computing Infrastructure: As an end-user, computing infrastructure releases your IT personnel from routine, labor-intensive tasks to instead work on value-added initiatives by providing you faster and easier deployment and management to your VDI and DaaS infrastructures. This enables your IT department to supply users with the applications they need with strengthened security.

2. Database Infrastructure: The consolidates disparate workloads into one efficient management platform by streamlining your database deployment, management, and operations. Your organization can rapidly provision, clone, patch, refresh, and perform backups, while the pay-as-you-go model drastically reduces expenses by eliminating upfront capital expenditures.

3. Private Cloud Infrastructure: Private cloud infrastructure provides IT organizations the ability to reliably deliver applications and data at any scale and provision, update, and perform disaster recovery with one click. It allows your organization to support business-critical workloads by bringing together the agility of on-premise with the security and flexibility of a private cloud.

For your modern IT organizations to thrive, you must embrace an as-a-service delivery model. HPE GreenLake with Nutanix supports your IT department in their journey to better align resources to your specific lines of business and has a wide variety of applications and infrastructure demands.

Learn how to take the stress out of backing up your data

It seems like we never have enough time to get everything done that we need to do during our time off. Before you know it, the weekend’s over and there’s still items left on our “to-do” list. That’s certainly the way it is for . If you’re a backup administrator, you know the routine too well. Full and incremental backups take an enormous amount of time. They also consume a lot of resources and bandwidth. Because of their negative impact on production environments, we schedule backup jobs during off-peak hours. The problem is that window just never seems to be quite long enough and with burgeoning data repositories and an expanding application portfolio, that window seems to only get smaller. Face it, scheduling backups in the hope they complete in time without interfering with one another is stressful. Administrators can only hope the last backup job completes before users begin to trickle in Monday morning. If not, users will be competing with those same backup jobs for network bandwidth and server utilization resources and the help desk phones begin to ring.

Complexity and Cost

And then there is the complexity of everything we have to protect. Applications are increasingly dispersed across multiple VMs along with an under layer of dependencies, creating complex application chains that must be completely restored to fully recover from an incident. To address the challenge of narrowing backup windows, traditional backup vendors have created their own distributed solutions, further adding to the complexity of it all. All of this adds to the nervous question of whether a speedy recovery on demand is truly possible, whether that’s a complete restore or the granular recovery of a few files. That’s why so much time is spent monitoring the backup processes, time that could be better spent creating value for the organization.

Zerto Eliminates the Backup Window

and protection software takes the stress out of backing up your data. There’s no need to sweat about whether the backup job will finish in time. That’s because their continuous data replication is constantly working, replicating every change that is generated within your environment in real time. No more mammoth backup streams being pushed through your network. Zerto backs up little bits at a time, creating what is referred to as recovery point objectives every few seconds. In other words, the slightest data change creates an RPO. No more intense backup processes that consume the resources of the servers you are trying to protect either.

Granular and Accurate Recovery

Let’s face it, backup restoration using point-in-time copies used in traditional backup technology is like taking a spin at the roulette wheel. It’s impossible to avoid recovery gaps as data changes since the last backup job are lost. Then there is the wasted time of restoring more data than you need to restore. Zerto eliminates these large recovery gaps and wasted labors because every data change is replicated in real time. This gives you the ability to restore your data down to the precise second. If a disruption occurred at 9:45 AM, you can restore your data back to 9:44 AM. At most, you lose windows of seconds, not hours, as is the case with traditional backups.

The ability to restore back with pinpoint accuracy is critically important for consistent recovery efforts of multi-VM applications that must be protected as one logical entity. Now you can spin up each application VM from the exact same recovery point, ensuring application consistency. Of course, not every instance calls for this type of split-second recovery. copies are still relevant for those organization needing to store data for long retention periods due to compliance requirements. For those longer retention periods, traditional backup copies are offloaded to secondary storage according to your schedule needs.

Simplified Backup Architecture

Zerto was created with simplicity in mind. It’s designed to fit into nearly any environment regardless of infrastructure because its technology is agnostic. Its purpose-built software appliance installs on any host where virtual or Kubernetes applications are to be protected so it doesn’t require dedicated hardware. It’s small footprint and low overhead components make it easy to scale out to potentially protecting petabytes of data and thousands of VMS. Despite its vast coverage potential, it doesn’t require weeks of intensive training to master it. is a single software experience that can accommodate a full slate of needs across the entire data management and protection spectrum. All of this translates into a future-proof solution and a reduced TCO.

The Power of Zerto and HPE Together

It’s easy to see how is changing the backup technology landscape. That’s why HPE recently completed its acquisition of Zerto. Says Tom Black, Senior Vice President and General Manager of HPE Storage:

“Our customers continue to face complexity in managing and protecting their data. Zerto’s best-in-class talent and technology expands HPE’s data management and disaster recovery capabilities, giving customers the ability to protect their data and recover in minutes from ransomware attacks. We are thrilled to welcome Zerto to the HPE family.”

Zerto’s cloud data management and protection software will remain available as a standalone service, but is also available now as a service through the HPE GreenLake platform and the Data Services Cloud Console. If you’d like to learn how Zerto can help you de-stress about your backups and disaster recovery efforts, then contact us at WEI where our storage SMEs can educate you about this exciting backup methodology and architecture that is reshaping the industry.

Over the last decade, the topic of cybersecurity has shifted from being a technical subject to a mainstream topic impacting every facet of the organization. As cyberattacks become increasingly more sophisticated, frequent and disruptive executive leaders now face a new complex blend of issues, including economics, business processes, and psychology.

During a recent event, presented in partnership with , we featured Michael Daniel, an industry thought leader and expert in cybersecurity. Serving as former Cybersecurity Advisor to the White House and current president and . Michael shared his outlook on the global security landscape and applicable steps to help you avoid becoming the next breaking cybersecurity story.

In the article below, we’ll share the top three strategies to level up your cyber game.

1. Change Your Cybersecurity Mindset

When it comes to cybersecurity, it’s often treated as a problem that you just purchase a solution for. The reality is cybersecurity is constantly evolving and requires a new mindset to protect the organization from emerging threats.

Here are two reasons why cybersecurity isn’t just a technical problem.

  1. Cybersecurity is an economic problem. Enterprises need to develop incentives for their employees by addressing cybersecurity as a shared risk and promoting that through collaboration across organizational boundaries.
  2. Cybersecurity is a psychological problem. Cybercriminals have been manipulating people for years and enterprises still struggle to apply the correct solutions because they are solving the problem only through technology.

By shifting your mindset about cybersecurity from a problem to be solved to a long-term strategy focused around a blended approach encompassing economics, business processes and human psychology, enterprises are better equip to manage risk and protect the enterprise from emerging threats.

2. Redefine Success For Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity lives inside cyberspace, which doesn’t operate like the physical world does. It’s difficult to understand cyberspace because none of the features of cyberspace work in the real world.

According to Michael, “Everybody will always say that cyberspace is borderless and that’s not true.”

It’s actually the complete opposite – borders are everywhere in cyberspace. There are routers, firewalls, and switches that create the borders. It’s just a difficult concept because the borders aren’t the same arbitrary political boundaries we’ve made in the physical world. Border security doesn’t work in cyberspace, and since our mental models can’t translate a borderless network, enterprises struggle with protecting themselves from cybersecurity threats.

Michael explained four ways cybersecurity threats are consistently evolving.

  1. Cybersecurity threats have become more diverse. The number and type of devices to attack is getting larger by every passing year. The volume and the diversity of connected devices increases the complexity of cybersecurity threats making it difficult to defend.
  2. The volume of malicious activity is increasing as the barriers to entry are low and the returns are high. Cybercriminals can make a lot of money or gain information with the low probability of being arrested and prosecuted.
  3. Cybersecurity threats are increasingly more sophisticated. In the last couple of years cybersecurity threats have increased exponentially. The criminal ecosystem is now diversified and highly specialized making cybercrime is far more organized than you think. They have access to key resources making them better prepared and knowledgeable. Cybercrime runs like a business and the “big ticket items” are enterprises. That’s why there has been an increase in ransomware.
  4. Cybercriminals are designing cyberthreats that are increasingly more disruptive. The impact of cyber incidents has increased because enterprises and individuals are more digitally dependent than ever. Having a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy involves acknowledging how cybersecurity threats are evolving in order to properly protect ourselves.

Cybersecurity is often seen as something you can simply fix, but rather a part of doing business in the modern world. You want to treat cybersecurity like a core operational risk that will occur throughout the life of your business. If not, one cyber incident could be catastrophic.

3. Recognize That Cybersecurity Is Still “New”

Cybersecurity is still very “new.” Many enterprises will say cybersecurity has been around for a long time. However, they haven’t been able to develop customs, habits, policies, or laws that consistently work well in cyberspace. We understand cyberspace as this highly connected and interactive environment – the internet. People are connected to the network all the time, more so every single year. Only in the last 20- 25 years has the network really evolved. In regard to customs, policies, and laws this is a very short amount of time.

The post 5 Critical Steps To Transform IT Service Delivery appeared first on IT Solutions Provider - IT Consulting - Technology Solutions.

]]>

When it comes to service delivery, there has never been more pressure on IT teams than today. With rapid adoption of digital technology and the prioritization of responsiveness, employees, customers, vendors, and enterprise leaders expect digital needs to be fulfilled faster than IT can often provide.

For this reason, IT leaders must improve the speed and efficiency of service delivery in order to keep business moving forward and stay ahead of the game when it comes to these new technologies.

IT-as-a-Service (ITaaS) has been a buzzword for some time, and the industry is at a point where best practices for implementing ITaaS have been developed and the benefits have been proven to be effective, making the transition to ITaaS all the more attractive for enterprise IT organizations.

Five critical steps every IT organization should take to transform IT service delivery:

  1. Promote self-service IT
  2. Quickly integrate and optimize
  3. Establish policy and controls
  4. Provide seamless delivery
  5. Plan for Day-2 and beyond

By linking together all of the tools and technologies in a way that acknowledges the people and process challenges of modernization, you can improve control and agility at the same time. Let’s take a closer look at these 5 steps to examine what is involved so that you can effectively plan your ITaaS delivery strategy.

Self-service for all

If an IT organization can’t get ahead of service requests, there will never be time for digital innovation. For this reason, promoting self-service for end-users is paramount. Whether the request involves providing access to business critical apps, spinning up a new (VM) or cloud resources, cutting through the noise and allowing employees to find the answers they need quickly, easily, and securely, will free up IT for long-term digital transformation initiatives.

As a secondary bonus, self-service cuts down on instances of , where users bypass the IT service stream entirely, whether due to impatience, wait times, or any other reason, and go off in search of answers themselves. Not only does this pose increased security risks, it can result in increased costs.

Integration and optimization

A majority of enterprises are running a mix of several platforms and clouds, with new options being added all the time. For this reason, utilizing software that promotes third-party integration is a game changer when it comes to optimizing your environment for efficiency. To fully take advantage of the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and automation, IT must have visibility and integration across the network.

Controls and policy

Third on the list is establishing effective role-based access control (RBAC). Regardless of your desired governance model, utilizing RBAC to effectively manage user access, provide self-service and automation, while still ensuring security, is a key piece of the IT service delivery puzzle.

Seamless delivery

Speeding up product delivery a high-priority goal for many IT organizations. That said, hurrying along the development of software development is of no use if the delivery and implementation process does not quicken as well. By bringing together development and implementation, IT organizations can create a seamless path for efficient delivery.

Post-implementation administration (Day-2 Ops and beyond!)

Automation will be your friend for managing Day-2 operations. While the provisioning process is accelerated through the above strategies, it’s also crucial to include lifecycle management as part of the IT service delivery equation. IT leaders are often expected to push out new applications or services as quickly as possible, but IT’s job doesn’t end once the new technology goes live. After that first day, IT is responsible for the administration and management of every new technology and ensuring that lifecycle management, including monitoring, logging, and data management, is part of your long-term plan for IT service delivery is key to preventing roadblocks in the future.

As technology changes, so do priorities. For today’s enterprises, the most important pieces of the IT equation are speed, flexibility and agility. However, IT is often overwhelmed with lifecycle management and infrastructure delivery. To keep up with business demands and improve efficiency, IT teams need to make use of automation to accelerate operations.

With the right solution, enterprises will be able to automate every step of the application delivery process, including networking and security. VMware solutions, including and the vRealize Suite, work in tandem to offer enterprises the key pieces they need to automate infrastructure and multi-cloud operations.

VMware Cloud Foundation, built on a software-defined HCI architecture, offers a consistent operational model applicable to any enterprise need.

VMware Reduces Human Error

Over time, enterprises have grown increasingly complex, often combining multiple generations of technology to provide quick solutions to short-term problems. However, in the long-term, these solutions often create environments that require significant time and energy to manage manually.

Unfortunately, manual processes are often rife with opportunities for human error. Monotonous configuration and provisioning tasks are especially prone to errors, leading to costly reworks and wasted time. By implementing VMware Cloud Foundation, enterprises can deploy lifecycle automation across their hybrid cloud environments. For even more benefit, enterprises can also leverage , which offers automation of deployment and configuration tasks.

When it comes to applications, automation allows enterprises to take a policy-based approach that only requires minor intervention from IT.

By automating configuration and provisioning tasks, VMware frees IT from the shackles of these slow, repetitive tasks, which reduces the possibility for human error at the same time.

Automate Standard Processes

In addition to configuration and provisioning tasks, other common, repeatable processes are a perfect opportunity for automation. provides enterprises with a way to automate and standardize repeatable processes, which has the added benefit of increasing the reliability of the IT environment. By automating these processes, IT can speed up application delivery and reduce the need for rework or downtime events.

Automation can also be applied to the provisioning and maintenance of various business processes, such as training provisioning or internal certifications. This allows employees from various areas of your enterprise to refocus on more high-level projects instead of manual, repetitive tasks.

Reduce Project Turnaround

What storage solution can be found in both the enterprise and personal cell phones? Flash storage. It’s a flexible and compact option that does away with the traditional Hard Disk Drive (HDD). While it is becoming more common to see flash in both the enterprise as well as consumer electronics, the similarities stop there. In this article, you will discover how is not just any other solution on the market and why you should choose their secondary flash array.

What is Flash Storage?

is a form of electrically erasable programmable read-only memory, or EEPROM; however, it is different than traditional EEPROM because it erases blocks of data rather than deleting one bit at a time. Unlike dynamic RAM (DRAM), standard EEPROM and flash are nonvolatile memory, meaning power is not needed in order to save your enterprise’s data with integrity.

As a solid-state storage option, there are no moving mechanical parts involved with flash storage, which reduces power consumption. And, since flash drives have no mechanical limitation for file access, they are able to retrieve information in microseconds, unlike hard disk drives which take milliseconds.

Nimble’s Secondary Flash Array Storage for Your Enterprise

Nimble Storage is built around reducing risk, improving reliability, and maximizing the productivity of your infrastructure and IT teams, while also giving your enterprise a competitive edge and making employees’ jobs easier.

Nimble’s secondary flash array is specifically optimized for the backup/disaster recovery and copy data management use cases. A flash cache provides performance to support recovery and also runs dormant workloads. Nimble’s snapshot-based replication allows fast, efficient data movement between Nimble’s all-flash arrays, hybrid flash arrays and secondary flash arrays. This secondary flash array also has a beefed up CPU and DRAM so inline compression and deduplication can be performed without impacting storage latencies. While most hybrid flash arrays in the industry do not do well in deduplication without impacting performance, it is a key component to Nimble’s secondary flash array.

Nimble’s triple parity plus RAID enables enterprise-class data integrity, no doubt a critical feature when optimizing workloads that have a high degree of data redundancy. You can expect, on average, an 18:1 data reduction ratio when used with Veeam.

Since it is optimized for snapshot-based backups to a flash tier, Nimble’s secondary flash array removes backup windows with zero impact to your host systems and with its excellent integration with Veeam in particular, secondary array flash use is particularly easy. The flash tier also provides near instant restores and offers the ability to run production or other workloads at full speed on space-efficient copies of the data. Workloads can include:

  • Reporting
  • Testing and development
  • Quality assurance
  • Analytics
  • More

Further, with this type of storage you have the ability to test and verify backups for peace of mind. Replication enables disaster recovery configurations that leverage not only all-flash arrays, but also hybrid flash arrays, and ultimately public cloud environments. The platform also provides solid integration, with Nimble Cloud Volumes enabling an enterprise-grade multi-cloud storage service with the full feature set of the NimbleOS and a flexible “pay as you go” use model.

Nimble’s secondary flash array also brings other key Nimble features with it, such as Timeless Storage and cloud based predictive analytics. Through Timeless Storage, all Nimble arrays come with a , all-inclusive software licensing, flat support pricing, no-forklift upgrades, and an option to receive a free faster controller upgrade after three years. InfoSight uses cloud based predictive analytics and machine learning to anticipate and prevent problems before they impact the business.

Final Thoughts on Nimble’s Flash Storage

Nimble’s flash storage, specifically its secondary flash array, offers your enterprise the security of storing your important data without the need for power and the ability to retrieve that data in microseconds. It also reduces downtime with the the ability to run production or other workloads at full speed on copies stored on the flash drive.

Ready to adopt flash storage? You might want to read through our tech brief, before you make a purchase. We certainly stand behind the move to flash storage, it’s the future of storage and offers monumental benefits, but our experience has showed that a flash storage decision is not one you make in a snap. One of the biggest mistakes companies make with a storage purchase is that they undersized it.

Talk to our storage team about your goals for flash and how you plan to use it; and we can help ensure you make a purchase that supports your needs now, and the future.
